As I get older I enjoy life more and more! Having just had an amazing 0 birthday weekend with friends I’ve been thinking about how important it is to surround oneself with people you enjoy being with. It’s a shame to find people who confess they have very few friends and after a while it becomes almost a habit to keep to yourself. I’m lucky to have found a bunch of equally addicted to life people who enjoy doing unusual and fun things – like dressing up for my party – theme – growing old disgracefully. Jet boating in the stinging rain. Picnic in the cold with balloons tied to a tree.
This year was the first time none of my children have been around for the birthday, so friends are important. As we age, our children head off into the distance to make their own way in their world. That’s important for us all. It’s then that our lives have to be recreated into a new phase. For me that’s exciting. I’ve taken up a new hobby – oil painting. I’ve travelled more, and I’m feeling amazingly content.
So my experience of gentle aging is an extraordinary time. Must be another party due. Oh yes, that’s right, phase two of my birthday is in another city this coming weekend. Brilliant.
